How does the Climate Change Levy (CCL) affect my business?
The Climate Change Levy (CCL) is an environmental tax which encourages businesses to reduce their carbon emissions.
The CCL applies to businesses operating within commercial, agricultural, industrial and public service sectors. These businesses will be charged per kilowatt hour (LWh) for electricity and gas and per kilogram (kg) for solid fuel.
Are there any exemptions?
You may be exempt from CCL if you fall under the following categories:
- You are a charity that conducts non-commercial activities
- Your business generates its own energy and sells excess power to the grid
- Your business energy consumption is already low, in which case it will automatically be viewed as being for domestic use
If you’re unsure whether your business qualifies for this tax exemption contact us.
