Case Study: Voltage Optimisers at the Holiday Inn

Next Gen Eco has quickly become one of the North East’s best energy advice and installation service providers. From voltage optimisers to commercial solar panels, we provide our expertise to several businesses across the county and beyond.

With clients across a variety of sectors trying to achieve energy efficiency, we enjoy providing insight and services that benefit the client and their customers – one such client is the multi-faceted hotel operator, Cairn Group.

1.) Who are the Cairn Group?

Established in the 1960s, the Cairn Group is a family-run hotel group that started with the ownership of one Newcastle hotel and has boomed in the last few decades to now having a portfolio of over 50 hotels, bars, and restaurants.

This is a company dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service inside some of the UK’s best establishments, with innovation and passion at the heart of everything they do.

2.) What was their issue?

With such high-end establishments under the Cairn Group’s care, energy output and costs can reach unprecedented heights, especially during the cost hikes at the beginning of 2023.

In this project, The Holiday Inn Jesmond came into focus with plans intending to lower the establishment’s energy bills and reduce the high amounts of power consumption present at the property.

3.) What was the solution?

As part of this partnership and with the client’s needs in mind, Next Gen Eco installed voltage optimisers for the Holiday Inn Jesmond in April 2023.

With these in place and further advice and support from the team, the hotel began saving £10k on their energy bills within just 2.5 months.

4.) What is the installation process?

To install voltage optimisers, trained and highly skilled electrical engineers install the connecting device between the main feed, which in this instance is the National Grid, and the hotel’s main electrical distribution outlet. The appliance works by lowering the power supplied by the National Grid (240V) to a more consumer and appliance-friendly level (around 220V).

After installation, the amount of energy entering the hotel is better regulated and minimises the amount of energy wasted on the journey between the National Grid to the appliances. This minimisation of energy usage ultimately leads to lower energy bills overall.

5.) The benefits of voltage optimisers

Voltage optimisers offer a host of benefits, the main ones of which are:

Lower kWh consumption means less damage on connected appliances
Less demand on the National Grid which will decrease emissions production
Decrease in energy bills as less energy is used

Overall, the implementation of voltage optimisers within commercial premises can greatly improve the business’s energy expenditure, Co2 emission contribution, and overall energy use.

We are pleased we could support the Cairn Group with their energy efficiency and money-saving plans and we are glad the voltage optimiser installation was the right solution for them.
