Welcome to the third edition of our ‘Day in the Life’ series! I’m Sarah Lydon, Managing Director of Next Gen Eco, and today I’m taking you behind the scenes of what a typical day looks like for me.
Many years ago, my husband Scott and I started what is now Next Gen Eco (formerly known as The Energy Depot) from our dining room table. Back then, it was just the two of us, driven by a passion to help businesses navigate the complex world of energy. Fast forward to today, and we’ve grown into a leading energy consultancy, supporting businesses across the UK. But despite our growth, I still stay involved in the day-to-day operations to keep everything running smoothly.
My mornings usually start early, juggling my responsibilities as both Managing Director and Head of HR. I work closely with our team to ensure that we’re fostering a positive, supportive, and productive work environment.
As MD, I need to stay on top of everything happening in the business. Midday is often spent checking in with different departments, reviewing our business strategy, and making sure we’re delivering the best service to our clients. I work closely with the team to streamline our processes and ensure we’re always improving. In the afternoons, you’ll often find me assisting with admin tasks, reviewing contracts, and supporting the pricing team to make sure our clients get the best energy deals possible. I believe in leading by example, which sometimes means rolling up my sleeves and jumping into the back-end work to keep things moving smoothly.
Even as the workday winds down, I’m always thinking about what’s next. Whether it’s brainstorming new ideas with Scott, planning for the future of Next Gen Eco, or reflecting on how we can improve our services.
What started as a small idea at our dining room table has turned into something so much bigger, and I couldn’t be prouder. At Next Gen Eco, we’re not just about energy—we’re about people, growth, and making a real difference for businesses.
Thanks for joining me on this behind-the-scenes look at my day! Stay tuned for the next edition of our ‘Day in the Life’ series as we continue to showcase the amazing team behind Next Gen Eco.
