Our team is comprised of talented individuals across various roles, each playing a crucial part in our energy services. In this new blog series, “A Day in the Life of,” we are pulling back the curtain to offer you an exclusive look into the daily activities of our team members.
Hello, I’m Scott Lydon, Sales Director at Next Gen Eco, and today I’m giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what a typical day looks like for me.
Years ago, when I was just starting out, I set up a consultancy company called Utilitywise. Alongside others, I helped shape what energy brokering in the UK looks like today. But I knew there was a better way to do things—one that put customers first, not just sales figures. Fast forward six years ago, my wife Sarah and I sat down at our dining room table and decided to create something different. That’s how Next Gen Eco was born—an energy consultancy built on trust, transparency, and real customer relationships. We wanted to ensure that every business we worked with felt valued, not just like another number on a spreadsheet.
My day kicks off by diving straight into running the daily sales operations. Leading a team isn’t just about setting targets—it’s about coaching, mentoring, and ensuring everyone has the tools and knowledge to succeed. I spend my mornings checking in with the team, monitoring performance, and offering support where it’s needed. I believe in leading by example, so I’m always on hand to help my team deliver the best for our clients. Even though I run the sales department, I still love picking up the phone and speaking directly with clients. At Next Gen Eco, our customers aren’t just sales numbers, and I make sure that personal, one-on-one service is always a priority. Whether it’s helping a business secure the best energy deal or advising on strategy, I take pride in ensuring that every interaction is helpful, transparent, and valuable.
Beyond the sales team, I spend a lot of my time exploring ways to grow the business. This means meeting with new suppliers to develop partnerships, strengthening existing relationships, and looking for new opportunities to enhance our offerings. I’m always on the lookout for ways to improve our services and ensure we stay ahead of the industry. Even when the official workday ends, my mind is still ticking over with ideas. I’m constantly thinking about our next steps, how we can innovate, and what we can do to serve our clients even better. Next Gen Eco has come a long way from our dining room table, but I know there’s still so much more to achieve.
For me, Next Gen Eco isn’t just a business—it’s a passion. I love seeing our team thrive, helping businesses take control of their energy costs, and continuing to build something truly different in the industry. Honesty, transparency, and real relationships are at the heart of everything we do, and I’m proud to be leading a company that puts those values first.
Thanks for joining me for this first edition of our ‘Day in the Life’ series! Stay tuned as we continue to introduce the incredible team behind Next Gen Eco.
Until next time,
Scott Lydon
